2012 SAT Prep classes
Keene Orthodontics Offers FREE SAT Prep, 2012
Keene Orthodontic Specialists' free SAT preparation program is scheduled for the first four Saturdays in March at Keene Public Library.
Keene Orthodontic Specialists funds the Free SAT Prep program as a service to our patients and the community. "There are many ways to be successful in life," asserts Dr. Charles Post of Keene Orthodontics. "But I have found that over a lifetime, a good education can have a tremendous impact." Recognizing the importance of the SAT exam in the college entry process, Dr. Post has been supportive of helping students achieve their best scores. "The students that have taken this course over the years have told me that they enter the test with more confidence, and, in many cases, achieved scores much higher than on SATs they had previously taken," explains Dr. Post.
The program is not designed to teach math and English per se, but rather to help students test well. Inflated scores are not the goal but accurate scores achieved with confidence are emphasized. Any student planning to take the SAT is eligible for the course, although priority is given to high school juniors during the registration process.
Instructors are Mr. Bob Ross, an excellent English teacher formerly of Keene Middle School and Brattleboro Union High School, and Mr. Rob Tiebout, a highly regarded math teacher at Keene High School. Mr. Ross has been presenting the program for several years including the essay component of the English testing format.
In previous years, the SAT Prep class has filled quickly and space is very limited. Students and/or parents are strongly encouraged to sign up as soon as registration opens in early January. An email address is requested at the time of registration because students must print their email confirmation and bring it to the first class as their ticket of admission.
The timing of the program prepares students to take the SAT test on Saturday, May 5. Registration for this testing date ends April 8. Information on testing dates and locations is available at www.collegeboard.com.
W
hich of the following can help students on their way to a promising future? a) an excellent education and good grades; b) respectable SAT scores; c) a great smile and a firm handshake; or d) all of the above. In the view of Keene Orthodontic Specialists, the answer is d) all of the above.
Program dates are Saturdays, March 3,10 (English), 17 and 24 (Math), 2012 • 9:30pm–12:30pm. Registration BEGINS on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, by emailing cswider@ci.keene.nh.us or by calling Keene Public Library at 603 352-0157. During January, registration is open to high school JUNIORS only. Starting February 1, students from other grades are welcome to sign up, if space permits.
Note: Dr. Post also sponsors the SAT Prep program in Brattleboro at Brattleboro Union High School; for students who live in or near Brattleboro, this is a good choice. More information is available at www.BrattOrtho.com
